Classes » CPSC 101, Summer 2004

Name

Elements of Computer Science

Description

CPSC 101 is intended to enhance student’s theoretical understanding of computers and to improve their proficiency in using them. The course will begin by exploring the flow of information through a computer’s hardware (input devices, output devices, the processor, storage, and peripherals). Whenever possible, students will handle the physical hardware they are studying. Following the hardware unit, students will be guided through common computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphic software, communications software, and web browsers/publishers) and introduced to programming in Visual Basic. The various units will consist of both lectures and labs, usually beginning with a discussion on the topic’s significance in daily life (i.e. databases and shopping). The lessons will then progress from an overview of basic functions towards the more advanced features of the applications/hardware.
