Courses » FINA 225: The Christian Tradition in Western Art and Architecture: 200-1600 CE

Description

An historical survey of the painting, sculpture and architecture of Eastern & Western Europe from the Early Christian/Byzantine era to the late Renaissance. Through slide-shows and lectures students will be introduced to the dialectical interaction between Christian thought and praxis on the one hand, and artistic inquiry and entreprise on the other, in the formation of pre-modern European civilization. Select multi-media presentations and field-trips will complement the in-class investigation of the visual legacy of the period.
